• Boldly Going Coffee in Enterprise, AL

Tucked into the broad frontage of what appears to be a repurposed dealership on Rucker Boulevard lies Boldly Going Coffee, a veteran-owned café just minutes from the Army post previously known as Fort Novosel. Located at 1230 Rucker Blvd, this lively spot bills itself as the “Home of the Original Craft Latte” and prides itself on fresh, eclectic offerings—from frappes to Italian sodas, keto fraps to smoothies.

  • Vibe & Atmosphere

Boldly Going Coffee has plenty of space to stretch out—thanks, it seems, to the building’s former life, possibly as a car dealership or real estate office.

I e-mailed the owners to inquire about the history of the building and other details, but I didn’t get a reply.

Despite the visual jumble, the space seems to work. On a Sunday afternoon, the line was nearly out the door; on Monday midday, it was nearly empty. It can feel lively or hushed depending on when you go. The music stays in the background, mostly light pop with a few 80s or 90s tracks mixed in. Low enough not to interfere with studying or talking, and easy to tune out unless a familiar song catches your ear.

If anything, the real strength here is the feeling that you’re allowed to linger. It’s a coffee shop that seems built more for hanging out than rushing through.

For those who need more quiet, there’s a study/reading room in the back. Reading Room, view 1 Reading Room, view 2 Reading Room, view 3 Reading Room, view 4

Also in the back are restrooms and some other shops, apparently independent.

  • Rather than serving up traditional drip coffee, Boldly Going’s menu leans heavily into imaginative, beverages: frappes, craft lattes, and blended drinks dominate. I didn’t try many of these as most were not vegan, though I tried one that could be made with plant-based milk and it was good but nothing to write home about. They also offer light eats—muffins, yogurt parfaits, burritos, snack boxes, and soup—for sit-down or takeaway. Unfortunately, none of these were vegan. I generally stuck to my standard cortados and cappuccinos, which were fine. I tried a shot of espresso and I was unimpressed. It was served in a paper cup and it was not outstanding in any way. Clearly, the baristas are not trained or equipped for classic coffees.

They serve coffee roasted by Lucky Goat Coffee Company in Tallahassee, Florida, USA. I took a bag home, probably the Ethiopian, for espresso. It wasn’t especially impressive.

  • Context: Enterprise, Alabama

Enterprise is a small city of about 28,700 nestled in Coffee and Dale counties. It’s famous for the Boll Weevil Monument, a quirky tribute to the insect pest that prompted the town’s farmers to diversify into peanuts, kicking off an economic transformation around 1919. It’s also home to murals in its public library, Enterprise State Community College, and sits right outside Fort Novosel, the home of the Army warrant officer and Army Aviation.

What’s in a Name: Fort Rucker was built in 1942 and named after the traitor Edmund Rucker. In April, 2023, it was renamed for the Medal of Honor recipient and aviator Chief Warrant Officer Michael J. Novosel. In June 2025, while I was visiting, Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth renamed it for the traitor, though they claimed it was Captain Edward Rucker, a World War 1 aviator, in order to evade a 2020 Congressional mandate.

  • Summary

Worth a stop if you’re in town and need a quiet place to relax and read for a while, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here. I really enjoyed being able to find a quiet place in the loft to study for hours with nothing disturbing me. The music was fine but most importantly, it was not particularly distracting. However, the aesthetic was a bit too schizophrenic in its eclecticism for me and they should decide on a theme or two. The Start Trek name is particularly odd as there were few aesthetic references to Star Trek inside. The menu could use some work, especially for those who like classic coffees and a vegan snack or two would have been nice.

    On a 1-5 scale, I’d give it a 5 for atmosphere, a 3 for aesthetic, and a 3 for menu.

But not everyone agrees with me. Most reviews highlight:

    • Atmosphere & space – cozy upstairs reading area, clean interior, friendly staff.
    • Drink variety & quality – frappes (like caramel or Hammerhead) often praised as standout items.
    • Mild critiques – a few mentions of loud music or slightly high pricing.
    • Consistency – high average rating (~4.5–4.8) suggests reliable service and offerings.
